Mariners Baseball Falls At Yuba 6-3

Mariners' Baseball endured a less than enjoyable as they visited the Yuba College 49ers on Thursday. The Mariners fell behind early and could never recover in an eventual 6-3 loss to their BVC rivals.  The 49ers led 4-0 before Marin finally got on the board, but they could do little to cut the deficit and prevent the loss. The Mariners scattered 11 hits in the game but scored just once in the fifth and twice in the eighth.

Matt Lozovoy started on the hill for Marin and received a rude greeting from the 49ers. After Marin failed to score in the top half of the first, two of the first three Yuba hitters worked walks. Following a strikeout, Cornish doubled for Yuba to put them ahead 1-0.

Marin did not score in the second and the home team struck again off of Lozovoy. With one out, Yoder lined a double to score a run and Curl knocked a two out single to put Yuba ahead 3-0. The home team added a fourth run in the fourth inning as the Mariners were unable to keep them scoreless.

The Mariners finally got on the board in the fifth inning as Jacob Berg singled with one out. Dionathan Cornet followed with a double and Joey Loveless lofted a sacrifice fly to plate Berg and cut the deficit to 4-1.

Nick Kennison took over for Lozovoy in the sixth and kept the 49ers scoreless in the inning. After Marin failed to score in the seventh, Yuba scored twice off of Kennison courtesy of a two out double.

Trailing 6-1, Marin put up a bit of a fight in the eighth as they loaded the bases with two outs. Connor Moylan lined a single to score a pair but Anthony Pomilia bounced into a fielder's choice to end the threat.

Berg singled to lead off the ninth but was doubled off on a lineout before Joey Loveless was retired to end the game with a 6-3 final score.

Lozovoy struck out seven in five innings, but also yielded eight hits and four runs. Kennison pitched the final three frames and allowed two runs and three hits with three strikeouts. Connor Moylan had a pair of RBIs for Marin, while Berg had two hits and a run scored.

The loss evened the Mariners record at 9-9 on the season. They host the Contra Costa Comets on Friday, March 6th for their final non-conference game of the year.
