Cronin's Walk-off Blast Caps Comeback Victory Over San Mateo

The College of Marin Mariners plated six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game up, then capped the comeback win with Riley Cronin's walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the 11th, to record an exciting 8-7 victory over the visiting San Mateo College Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon at the Mariners Baseball Complex.

Trailing 7-1 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Mariners rallied to tie the game up, fueled in part by a 3-run home run by Trent Free. 

The Mariners, who's lineup only mustered one run in the first 6 innings, with a solo home run by Steven Elsner, utilized several pinch hitters and pinch runners to put the team in position to win.

Jake Tirk started the game and pitched 3 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs. Jake Verweil came into the game to relieve Tirk and pitched 4 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 earned runs.

Mariners reliever Sid Polston (1-1) had a fantastic finish, earning the win after tossing a 4 scoreless innings and giving up only 1 hit.

Next, the Mariners host Mission College on Tuesday, March 1 at 2pm.
