Mariners Clinch Series Win

The College of Marin Mariners faced off against the Mendocino College Eagles Friday in the series clinching game three Bay Valley Conference series on Friday, April 15th. 

Donovan Ratfield wasted no time starting the game off with a leadoff home run on the first pitch he saw. Giving the Mariners an early 1-0 lead. Following in his footsteps the next inning, Jack Morken popped his own leadoff home run of the inning to make it a 2-0 ballgame. 

The Eagles were able to scrape back and even take a 4-3 lead for a few of the middle innings, but Marin found a way to put their scoring to a halt. Bryan Thornton came in in relief and went  5.1 innings allowing no runs and striking out six batters.

In the 9th inning the Mariners cracked it open. Parker Falzone led off the 9th inning with a double. Followed by an Eric Woodrow single, the Mariners were back on top 5-4. Trent Free then steps up to the plate and knocks his own double down the left field line which scored Donovan Ratfield who had reached by a HBP.  In his first at bat of the game, a pinch hit by AB, Riley Phelan then added his own double to score both Trent Free and Eric Woodrow. 

Throwing the last two innings, Jake Verwiel struck out six batters and the side in the 9th inning to cap off a 9-5 series win for the Mariners.

Trent Free led the Mariner offense with 3 hits while Eric Wodrow had a pair of his own. Donovan Ratfield and Jack Morken both blasted solo homeruns for the Mariners. Bryan Thornton struck out 6 giving up no runs in 5.1 innings. Jake Verwiel earned the win in his stellar two innings of work.
