Mariners Outpace Visiting Mustangs

The College of Marin Mariners took on the Los Medanos Mustangs in game one of the three game Bay Valley Conference series on Tuesday, March 29th.

It was a stalemate into the 3rd inning when Steven Elsner laced a ball into left field to score Parker Falzone. Eric Woodrow added his own line drive into center field to score another run. Devin Kirtley led off the next inning unleashing a towering blast that sailed into the palm tree behind right center field fence.

On the defensive side of the game, starting Mariner pitcher Ryan Shimabukuro kept the Mustangs in check. In his first start of his collegiate career, Ryan went 6 strong innings and gave up zero runs in his outing. He struck out 5 in his first ever collegiate win.

In the 7th inning, the Mariners began to run away with the game. Donovan Ratfield started the rally off with a single to left. From there, the Mariners were able to find ways to move the runner and score the runner as they plated 5 runs that inning.

Eric Woodrow went 2-4 with a run and 2 RBI’s. Steven Elsner also added a two hit day going 2-5 with one RBI and two runs scored. Devin Kirtley knocked his first homerun of the year in the victory.

The Mariners travel to Los Medanos on Thursday to lace them up for game two of the three game series.
