The Mariners are gearing up for an exciting journey as they hit the road on Friday, January 26th, marking the start of the much-anticipated 2024 baseball season.   

In the upcoming season, the team showcases an ideal combination of experienced leaders and emerging talent, featuring the return of 13 sophomores to the roster. This diverse mix, hailing from locations such as the Bay Area, Maryland, Georgia, and beyond, creates an exciting dynamic that lays the foundation for a season brimming with potential and promise.

One key player to watch is standout pitcher Erik Kvidhal, who showcased his talent with a notable 6-3 win/loss record during the 2023 season. His experience and skill on the mound will undoubtedly be a driving force for the Mariners this year. Returning to the lineup is the power-hitting Lucas Schaefer, who made waves in the 2023 season with an impressive 11 home runs. Schaefer now stands just 5 home runs away from tying the all-time career record of 16, currently held by Steven Elsner since 2023. The anticipation is palpable as fans eagerly await the possibility of witnessing a record-breaking performance. 

Heading into his 24th season as head coach for the College of Marin, Coach Steve Berringer is optimistic about the team's chemistry. He notes that this group is exceptionally cohesive, with a strong bond both on and off the field. The players' dedication is evident as they consistently hit the weight room and practice field together, creating an atmosphere of unity that Coach Berringer believes will translate into victories on the diamond. 

Coach Berringer expresses his excitement for the season, stating, "We will try to take advantage of the chemistry to ensure it translates into wins on the field. This team is special, and we're ready to see what they can achieve together."
