Mariners Set Sail with a Stellar Start: Dominating the Opening Trio of Games

The Mariners have opened the 2024 season with three back-to-back wins.  

On Thursday, January 26th College of Marin faced Diablo Valley College in a non-conference matchup, ending the game with a 5-0 win.  

How it Happened:  

The offense came alive as Matteo Bellisimo doubled to right field, RBI, and Benny Nazario Scored in the first inning. At the top of the fifth, the Mariners found themselves in another position to score as Chris Delangis walked up to the plate. Delangis singled to left field, Bellisimo advanced to second, and Lucas Schaefer scored. In the sixth inning, Bellisimo singled to left field, Schaefer advanced to third Wyatt Davis scored. Delangis stepped up to the plate yet again and grounded out to shortstop, opening up the field for Bellisimo to advance to second while Schaefer scored. To close out the game, Derek Bartram closed the game with an unearned run.

The very next day, the Mariners hosted the College of San Mateo Bulldogs, the game concluded with a 5-2 win.  

How it Happened:  

Derek Bartram's standout performance led the offense, going 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs, including a crucial home run. Skylar Lenihan also contributed with a key RBI. Pitcher Ryan Shimabukuro started strong, with solid relief from Sebastian Elsner and Jeremy Maldonado. The team showcased defensive prowess, holding the opponents to 5 hits. Overall, a well-fought game resulting in a well-deserved win.

On Tuesday, January 30th the Mariners defeated the Diablo Valley College Vikings, 25-5. The last time the Mariners scored 25 runs was last season on March 18th against Contra Costa.  

How it Happened:  

In a dominant display, our team secured an impressive 25-5 victory. The offense was led by Wyatt Davis, who delivered a remarkable performance with 3 hits and 6 RBIs. Chris Delangis also stood out, contributing 5 hits and 2 RBIs. Pitcher Erik Kvidahl started strong, and the bullpen held firm to secure the win. The team showcased solid defense, limiting the opponents to 8 hits. With a total of 17 hits and 25 RBIs, it was a commanding performance, highlighting the team's skill and coordination.
