Mariners fall to the Giants in Annual Series

On Friday February 2nd, the Mariners defeated the College of the Sequoias Giants, 14-7.  

How it Happened:  

Marin showcased an impressive offensive performance in their first game of the series, securing a commanding 14-7 victory. Standout players included Wyatt Davis, who delivered a powerful display with 4 RBIs, and Matteo Mendoza, who had an outstanding 4-hit game contributing 3 RBIs. The team's well-rounded effort saw contributions from various players, resulting in 15 hits and 14 runs. The Marin defense was solid, with a total of 13 hits and 7 strikeouts. With this win, Marin continues to build momentum, emphasizing their prowess on both ends of the field.

On a Saturday morning matchup, the Mariners succumbed to the Giants, with a final score of 5-10.  

How it Happened:  

The Giants initially secured a two-run lead in the opening inning, maintaining a scoreless streak until the bottom of the sixth. A sudden surge of 8 runs in the final three innings propelled the Giants to victory over the Mariners. 

  

Despite Benny Nazario's resilient performance at third base, Marin encountered difficulties in generating offensive momentum. Wyatt Davis showcased moments of brilliance with two runs, while Lucas Schaefer contributed with two hits and two walks. Matteo Bellisimo's commendable defensive play at first base, unfortunately, couldn't prevent Marin from experiencing their first loss. 

A shining light for Marin, Chris Delangis, demonstrated prowess at the plate by accumulating an impressive five RBIs. His display of both power and precision was a notable highlight in an otherwise challenging game for the Mariners.

Following this encounter, the Mariners engaged in their series finale against the Giants. In a hard-fought battle, the Mariners fell short with a final score of 7-8. The Giants orchestrated a five-run surge in the bottom of the 6th inning. Although the Mariners managed to mount a comeback, tying the game in the top of the 9th inning, the Giants scored a decisive run, ultimately securing victory and concluding the game ahead of the Mariners. 

How it Happened:  

The batting highlight came from the stellar performance of Jacob Anteneh, who went 4-for-4, amassing an impressive four RBIs. Wyatt Davis also contributed significantly, going 2-for-5 with a crucial RBI. Matteo Bellisimo and Skylar Lenihan added to the scoreboard with one RBI each. 

Despite the offensive firepower, Marin faced challenges on the defensive end, tallying up 13 strikeouts and leaving 10 players stranded on base. The pitching trio of Zach Fiene, John McGowan, and Jeremy Maldonado fought valiantly on the mound, but the opposing team managed to capitalize on opportunities, securing the narrow victory.
