Mariners Pull Off Comeback for 70-66 Victory over Alameda College

The men’s basketball team pulled off a 13-point comeback late in the second half with some outstanding defensive possessions. The freshmen post stepped up in this match leading the team to victory.  

The Mariners (8-11;4-3)  had the upper hand to start the game with a 10-5 lead after a pull-up from sophomore AJ Gilbert. At the 8:30 mark, the Mariners and the Cougars began trading baskets as the Cougars took the lead late into the first half. At halftime, the Mariners went into the locker room down by 13 points.  

The Mariners came out fired up and ready to play hard for the next 20 minutes. The Mariners were down by 2 points with 17 seconds left of the game. Tre McPherson drove to the basket with time winding down to tie the game at 66 leaving 13.2 seconds on the clock. College of Marin capitalized off of a steal by sophomore leader Daniel Fagan giving the Mariners the lead, 68-66 with 4.7 seconds left.  Two free throws by Tre McPherson stamped the Mariner’s victory ticket.  

A huge 46-point second half for College of Marin would be highlighted by two freshmen finishing in double figures. Coming off of a 20pt game two nights before, freshman post, Anton Williams scored a season high of 21 points and 7 rebounds. Devin Mims, freshman post, played his best game of the season with 13 points and 9 rebounds.
