The Men’s Basketball team has ignited the 2023-2024 season with an impressive start, showcasing the strength and resilience of four returning sophomores: Cobi Wilson, Tre McPherson, Logan Coverson, and Devin Mims. These seasoned players, who exhibited leadership qualities as freshmen, have seamlessly transitioned their competitive spirit and guidance into the current season. 

Under the strategic guidance of Coach Russell, the Mariners boast a diverse and talented roster, spanning from the Bay Area and East Coast to the Ivory Coast and New Zealand. While the overall record stands at 2-3, the Mariners are steadily finding their rhythm and establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with. 

In their debut victory against Santa Rosa Junior College (69-61), the Mariners demonstrated exceptional teamwork against a seasoned opponent. Four players, namely Tre (14), Cobi (13), Justin (13), and Devin, who secured a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, contributed to the triumph. The team's solid defense forced 11 turnovers from the Bear Cubs, while their sharpshooting skills saw an impressive 40% accuracy from beyond the arc and an outstanding 91.7% from the free-throw line. 

The Mariners' most recent triumph in the Don Barksdale Tournament against Feather River College (63-55) showcased their tenacity. Te’Shawn Gamble led the scoring charge with 18 points, supported by Tre McPherson, who notched 14 points and led the team with 5 assists and 5 steals. Justin Aquino contributed 12 points, and Devin Mims showcased accuracy from the free-throw line, shooting an impressive 7-8. Jabez Worthington dominated the boards as the leading rebounder for the Mariners. 

As the season progresses, the Mariners are witnessing a cohesive unit emerging, with different players stepping up to the challenge each night. The team's ability to adapt and excel in various aspects of the game bodes well for their promising journey ahead. The Mariners are poised for a season filled with thrilling victories and collective achievements, laying the foundation for an exciting and successful campaign.
