Mariners Men’s Soccer Leads Early But Falls To Yuba 4-1

College of Marin Men's Soccer followed a familiar script on Tuesday at Yuba College. The Mariners led early on thanks to inspired play, but yielded their lead and were handed a defeat by the Yuba College 49ers. Marin took an early lead inside 10 minutes of play but allowed four consecutive goals and took a 4-1 loss.

The game started off all positive for Marin as they broke the early deadlock in the 10th minute. Joseph Ndungu supplied a pass to Peter Carroll who scored from close range to put the Mariners ahead 1-0. It was a positive sign for the Mariners' attack who were without top goal scorer Kristoffer Wangberg due to yellow card accumulation.

The lead did not last a quarter of an hour as Yuba struck back in the 23rd minute. Jorge Avelar served up a ball for Augustin Cardenas who made it count with a laser shot to pull the teams even at 1-1. The 49ers were not done as they took the lead in the 35th minute. This time it was Donovan Guzman who supplied the ball to Avelar for the goal.

The Mariners went to the halftime break facing a 2-1 deficit. They had the chance to stage a comeback but were thwarted by Yuba's tenacity. In opposition the 49ers scored again in the 53rd minute as Avelar bagged his brace with an assist from Cardenas.

Still trailing, the Mariners attempted a furious comeback attempt, but their efforts were fruitless. They lost Daniil Menshikov to a red card and the 10-man Mariners' squad were unable to keep up the fight.

Yuba added their fourth goal in the 80th minute to put a bow on the final 4-1 score.

Carroll scored his fifth goal of the year off of Ndungu's first assist of the season. Bryan Rodriguez made five saves in goal.

The loss was the Mariners' third in BVC play and dropped them to sixth in the conference standings. Marin is back at it on Friday, October 11th as they host the Contra Costa Comets at 4pm.
