Mariners down Mendocino at home 2-0

Kentfield, CA – The Mariners posted their first conference win against the Mendocino College Eagles. The focus for the Mariners was to be a more compact team defensively, to get players behind the ball and limit the space for the opponent as much as possible.

Getting an early lead was very helpful for the Mariners. Sophomore forward Wilson Barahona scored the goal and it was assisted by freshman midfielder, Omar Garcia. A key moment of the game was sophomore, goalkeeper Aly Alvarado saving the penalty kick which was huge in securing the win. The Mariners put the game away when sophomore forward Wilson Barahona assisted freshman forward Dave Mazariegos late in the second half.

Coach Aguiar states This was a quality team effort for us to get our first win. The guys have gotten on the same page and improved a lot in a short period. The positivity and teamwork they showed today was a good example of important steps forward that we have taken recently. Everybody contributed to this result today, from the guys who played 90 minutes to the guys who were supporting and providing information from the sideline. Time to move forward because there are no easy games in this conference. On to the next one.”

Up Next: The Mariners will host Yuba College on Tue, Oct. 11, in a 4 pm game at Pieper Field.
