Triumph and Farewell: COM Men’s Soccer Caps Off Stellar 2023 Season

The Mariners wrapped up their 2023 season with an impressive 12-8-1 overall record, showcasing their prowess with an 8-3-1 standing in Bay Valley Conference play. The team's outstanding performance throughout the season earned them well-deserved post-season conference awards.

Jonathan Raphael emerged as a standout player, securing the titles of Bay Valley Conference Midfielder of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, and overall Conference Player of the Year. His remarkable contributions to the team's attack were pivotal in securing important victories throughout the season. Likewise, Leonel De Leon's exceptional skills on the field led to him being voted Bay Valley Conference Defender of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. His leadership as captain and his significant role in both defensive and offensive plays contributed to the team's success, with a notable 7 goals to his name this season.

Acknowledging the collective effort of the team, Jonathan and Leonel's individual achievements were made possible by the unwavering support of their teammates on and off the field. Jeffrey Grijalva and Eduardo Lopez earned well-deserved spots on the Bay Valley All-Conference Second Team, further highlighting the team's depth and talent.

Christian Garcia distinguished himself by claiming the top spot in BVC goals (16) and points (38), showcasing his prowess in front of the net.

As the Mariners bid farewell to eight accomplished sophomores — Jeffrey Grijalva, Jonathan Raphael, Leonel De Leon, Enrique Amador, Eduardo Lopez, Sage Urbaez, Pablo Nunez-Smith, and Herly Saravia — we express our gratitude for their invaluable contributions. The team now eagerly anticipates the leadership of returning players and the impact of incoming freshmen for the upcoming 2024 season.
