COM Diver Brandon Guy Places 8th At NorCal Championships, Qualifies for State Meet

The College of Marin Dive team may be small in numbers, but not in skills. Marin diver Brandon Guy competed at the Northern California Community College Diving Championships on Saturday at Delta College. The sophomore, who joined the team last spring with zero diving experience, took eighth place over the weekend in the 1 meter springboard competition. That placement grants Guy entry to the State Championships the first weekend in May.

Of the 18 competitors, Guy took eighth with a score of 121.20. He finished just 0.35 points ahead of the ninth place competitor Joey Silvey from host school Delta College. The top eight finishers each earned a spot in the California Community College State Swimming & Diving Championships which take place at East LA College from May 4th-6th.

Brandon is the fifth College of Marin diver under the tutelage of diving coach Mike Klunk to qualify for the state meet. Brandon joined the team in 2016, with no previous diving experience, and in a little over a year has the chance to represent his school in the State Championships.

While the Swim Team was idle over the weekend, they will compete in the Bay Valley Conference Championships at Merced College from April 20th-22nd
