Mariners Basketball Throttles Yuba 78-58 To Win Modesto Consolation Championship

College of Marin Women's Basketball ended their weekend on a high note with a convincing victory over Yuba College 78-58 in the Consolation Championship of the Modesto College Tournament. The Mariners balanced attack saw four different players chip in with double digit scoring.

Marin opened up the game on a nice run and took a 19-11 into the first quarter timeout. They extended their advantage at halftime to 38-26. Kaleah Williams was tremendous in the first half scoring 13 points. Victoria Lane chipped in 10 points of her own in the first 20 minutes of play.

The Mariners' pace slowed in the third quarter as Yuba put up 21 points against Marin's 16. Nursing a 54-47 lead, the Mariners exploded in the fourth quarter for 24 points while limiting Yuba to just 11 of their own. Lane had nine in the period, while Williams added eight more for good measure. They both tallied 21 points on the afternoon.

Maya Murry-Pena had her most productive game of the year with eight points, Kyra Bolden had 11 including three three pointers while Janea Early added 13 points of her own.

Lane was named to the All-Tournament Team, while the Mariners improved their record to 4-3 on the season.

Next up for Marin is a home game against Hartnell College on Tuesday, December 12th.
