Women’s Basketball Drops Season Opener To Skyline

Mariners Women's Basketball did not enjoy a Cinderella start to their season on Saturday. The team played their first game since the 2017-2018 season and were rudely greeted by the Skyline Trojans. Marin's hosts bludgeoned the Mariners on the glass with the end result a 72-23 loss to begin the 2019-2020 season. Freshman Vanessa Torres and Sophomore Kaleah Williams tied with a team high six points each for the Marin.

The difference in the game was shooting, the Mariners could muster just 2 for 12 in the first quarter while Skyline shot 9 for 18. Marin trailed 24-6 after the first 10 minutes of play, and 38-14 at halftime. In the third quarter exhaustion set in for the eight-member squad. Marin scored just three points and allowed 23 to the Trojans. The fourth quarter allowed both sides to play their reserves and the game ended with a 72-23 final.

As a team the Mariners shot just 18.8% and turned the ball over 23 times. Kaleah Williams led the Mariners with six points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. Vanessa Torres made a pair of three pointers and grabbed a pair of boards.

The Mariners look to shake off their opening game with a road trip to Salinas. The Mariners take on the Hartnell College Panthers on Tuesday, November 5th with tip off scheduled for 5pm.
