Women’s Basketball Blasts Hartnell 70-35 For First Win

College of Marin Women's Basketball shook off their season opening loss to Skyline on Saturday with a thunderous victory over the Hartnell College Panthers on Tuesday evening. Marin led by double digits at halftime and never looked back as they doubled up on their hosts Hartnell in a 70-35 victory. Freshmen Victoria Bing and Savanna Arce led the way for Marin with 21 and 16 points respectively.

Marin did not score for the first four minutes but found their shooting stroke midway through opening quarter. Kaleah Williams made back to back three pointers and Vanessa Torres added one of her own to tie the game up at 9-9 with a minute left on the clock. Marin reeled off six points late in the first to take a 15-9 lead and never trailed again.

Arce took control in the second quarter with ten points of her own. Marin added 15 more in the period and led 30-19 at halftime.

The Mariners imposed their will in the second half and put the game out of reach. The third quarter belonged to Bing who scored 13 of Marin's 20 in the quarter. The Mariners' defense limited Hartnell to just five points as the lead ballooned to 50-24.

The fourth quarter was much like the third as Bing scored another eight points. Arce added six more of her own and Marin cruised to the 70-35 win.

Bing led all scorers with 21 points, including nine made field goals and three free throws. Arce had eight buckets in the paint to register 16 points of her own. Williams added 15 points and Torres had double digits with 10.

The Mariners improved their 2019-2020 record to 1-1. They visit the ever-dangerous Folsom Lake Falcons on Tuesday, November 13th at 6pm.
