Women’s Basketball Drops Road Game At Folsom Lake 72-41

A first quarter blitz by the hosting Falcons set the stage for a double-digit loss by the Mariners on Tuesday. College of Marin Women's Basketball traveled to Folsom Lake and were rudely greeted with a 72-41 beatdown. The first quarter set the tone as the Falcons jumped out to a 25-4 lead after the first ten minutes of play. The Mariners played much better for the remainder of the game but could not dig out of their early deficit. Marin's Kaleah Williams led all scorers with 19 points.

The Falcons opened the game on a 15-0 run before a Mariners' basket by Maya Murry-Pena broke the scoreless streak. Folsom Lake led 25-2 in the waning seconds of the first quarter before Kaleah Williams made an acrobatic layup as the clock expired. The Mariners showed improvement in the second quarter, outscoring the Falcons and making the score 36-21 at halftime.

The second half began with a score fest as the two teams combined for 38 points in the third quarter. The split went in favor of Folsom Lake who poured in 23 and led 59-36 score prior to the fourth. Both teams emptied their benches in the fourth quarter and the result was a 72-41 final.

Williams led the Mariners in points and rebounds. She scored 19 and grabbed nine rebounds as well as an assist, two steals and a block. Maya Murry-Pena scored in double figures in her first game of the season. She poured in 15 points on 7-11 shooting with four rebounds and three steals. The Mariners struggled as a group from distance, making just one three pointer in the game.

Folsom Lake shot 53.6% as a team and tallied five players in double figures.

The loss dropped the Mariners record to 1-2 in the young season. They host the Modesto Junior College Pirates on Saturday, November 16th at 1pm.
