Women's Basketball Drops Game To Feather River 80-65

It was a game of four quarters on Tuesday, as most basketball games are. The Mariners hosted the Feather River Golden Eagles in a memorable game which saw both teams display widely different sides of themselves from quarter to quarter.

A tightly contested first quarter gave way to a second quarter blow out. The second half played out the same as Feather River dominated in the third before the Mariners rallied in the fourth. The end result was an 80-65 for the visitors, however the game demonstrated that Marin has the talent and ability to keep up with nearly any opponent.

The six-man squad of Marin showed no fear in the face of larger Feather River contingent. The two teams traded the lead early on as the game was tied at 10-10 and 16-16. The Golden Eagles led 21-18 as the clock wound down before Kaleah Williams made a driving layup as the clock expired to put Marin down just one point after the first quarter.

The second quarter was less than pleasant for the Mariners and their supporters as Feather River jumped out to a big lead and never looked back. The Golden Eagles led 40-24 before a little run at the end of the period brought the Mariners back to 46-29 at halftime.

The third quarter saw Feather River extend their lead past the 20-point mark as they led 65-41 by the end of the period. The fourth quarter saw the Mariners rebound in a big way as they pulled within 15 at 69-54 with 4:20 left on the clock. The Golden Eagles called a time as Marin kept pushed the tempo. A Mariners' layup made the score 71-58 with three minutes remaining, but they could not complete the entire comeback and fell 80-65.

Williams had a tremendous game for Marin with 28 points and 11 rebounds. She shot 11-18 from the floor and made 6-11 from the free throw line. Maya Murry-Pena had 13 points including nine made free throws while Vanessa Torres had 11 points and five boards.

The Mariners have a few days to rest and recover before they travel to Oroville to take on the Butte College Roadrunners on Sunday, December 15th at 2pm.
