Women’s Basketball Blasts Past LMC In Second Half

The Mariners utilized a 40-point second half to push past their hosts from Los Medanos College on Friday. Marin trailed 28-19 at halftime, but put together one of their strongest halves of the year to grab a 59-49 win over the Mustangs. Victoria Bing and Kaleah Williams each recorded a double double in the game, as the Mariners dominated on the glass.

Marin got off to a sluggish start as they managed to score just 10 first quarter points. Los Medanos on the other hand scored 14 and held a small lead early on. Bing scored six in the first quarter to pace Marin. The second period strongly mimicked the first with the Mariners accounting for just nine points, led by four from Williams. Los Medanos equaled their first quarter number with 14 to take a nine-point halftime lead.

The second half, was practically a different game as Marin awoke offensively to change the game. They scored 22 in total. It was a balanced attack as Williams scored seven, with Bing, Sophia Jacob and Vanessa Torres added five each. The fourth quarter was all Bing as the Freshman dominated the paint and scored nine points of her own.

The defense played much better in the second half and limited the Mustangs to only 21 points in the final 20 minutes of the game.

The result was a Mariners win by a score of 59-49.  The team shot 40.3% overall in the game and made four three pointers as well. Bing had 20 points and 10 boards to go with three steals. Williams scored 16 and added 12 boards, seven assists and five steals.

The Mariners bagged their 8th win of the season and improved to 5-6, good for fifth place in the Bay Valley Conference.

Next up for the Mariners is their penultimate home game of the season. They host the Solano College Falcons at 7:30pm on Wednesday, February 12th.
