Vanessa Torres and Kaleah Williams Named To BVC All-Conference Team

A pair a Mariners’ Basketball players earned post season accolades. Freshman Vanessa Torres and Sophomore Kaleah Williams were named to the Bay Valley Conference All-Conference Team after leading Marin to a fourth place finish in the 2019-2020 season.

Torres was superb in her first season for College of Marin. The Novato High graduate displayed a varied skill set at the point guard position. She played in all 24 of the Mariners’ games and averaged 8.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

The freshman made 40 three pointers during the year and shot 68.3% from the free throw line. Her highest scoring game of the season came on January 8th against the Los Medanos Mustangs. Torres scored a team high 19 points and added eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in Marin’s 60-46 victory.

Teammate Kaleah Williams excelled in her second season for Marin. She averaged 16.4 points per game and a career best 9.7 rebounds per game. Wililams shot 40.6% from the floor and 61% from the line in her 22 contests.

Williams saved her best for last as she displayed her diverse skill set in her final career game for Marin. On February 21st against Laney College, Williams went all out and single handled thumped the visiting Eagles 68-48.

The guard/forward scored a career best 37 points on 15-27 shooting. She added 15 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and three blocks in a transcendent performance. Her scoring prowess set the Mariners single game record for the past decade and game in a variety of ways. She scored inside, off the dribble and knocked down three triples in the rout.

When healthy, Williams proved herself to be one of the most talented Mariners in recent history.

Torres and Williams displayed their immense skill during the 2019-2020 season. While Williams has hung up her shoes, Torres looks to carry on in the 2020-2021 season.
