College of Marin Women's Basketball Dominates in Historic Victory

In a commanding performance, the College of Marin Women's Basketball team (3-1) defeated the Mendocino College Eagles (1-4) by a staggering 101-39, setting a new program record for points in a game. While the Mariners faced a slow start, leading by just 10 points at halftime (38-28), they exploded in the second half, outscoring Mendocino 63-11 after the break. 

Second Half Surge 

The Mariners came out of halftime on fire, holding Mendocino to just five points in the third quarter and six in the fourth. The defensive lockdown, combined with an offensive surge, allowed Marin to sore ahead and secure a commanding lead, ultimately finishing with a program-record 101 points. 

Key Player Performances 

Several Mariners played pivotal roles in this dominant win, with Jaidyn Brown leading the charge. Brown finished with a game-high 24 points, shooting 8-of-13 from the field and an impressive 6-of-8 from beyond the arc (75%). In addition to her scoring, Brown contributed five assists and four steals, showcasing her all-around game. 

Ty Chappell added 23 points, with a strong shooting performance of 3-of-5 from three. Chappell’s scoring, particularly from long range, kept the Eagles on their heels throughout the game. 

Isabella Zepeda and Bella Turner each contributed 10 points. Turner was especially effective on the boards, pulling down a team-high 8 rebounds, all of which were offensive, allowing the Mariners to dominate the glass. Kamari Johnson and MaTaya Sherman both added 6 points, contributing valuable depth off the bench. 

Defensive Effort 

The Mariners' defense was equally impressive, with Samantha Morris and Bella Turner leading the team in steals with 6 each, disrupting Mendocino’s offensive flow throughout the game. Overall, Marin forced 34 turnovers and held the Eagles to just 39 points, an impressive defensive display.
