In their second Bay Valley Conference matchup, the College of Marin women's soccer team displayed an impressive all-around performance, shutting out Contra Costa College with a 4-0 victory. The Mariners now improve to 2-0 in conference play, maintaining momentum as they continue their campaign for a strong season.
From the opening whistle, Marin set the tone, with midfielder Ellie Garcia emerging as the standout of the match. Garcia was a constant threat, recording 9 shots, 5 on goal, and netting 2 goals. Her relentless pressure on the opposition was complemented by an assist, showcasing her playmaking ability as well. Alongside Garcia, midfielder Emmy Bergen also made her mark with 2 goals of her own, on 6 shots, with 4 of those on target. Bergen’s energy and precision helped Marin secure an early lead and build on it throughout the game.
The Mariners’ defense, led by goalkeeper Amber Lincoln, was equally impressive, keeping Contra Costa off the scoreboard. Lincoln faced 4 shots on goal and saved all of them, ensuring Marin’s clean sheet. Defender Estrella Fernandez and her backline teammates contributed to the shutout, preventing any significant offensive threats from Contra Costa.
Assists from Hailey Poulter and Garcia helped fuel Marin's offense, with Poulter playing a pivotal role in linking up the attack. Midfielder Nicole Gutierrez also added a shot on goal, contributing to the Mariners' dynamic and relentless approach.
Marin’s next conference opponent is Yuba College. The teams will meet on Friday, October 4th at 4:00 PM in Kentfield, CA.
