Mariners Volleyball on Wrong Side of Epic Four Set Match With CRC Hawks

College of Marin Volleyball competed in one of the closest imaginable matches on Wednesday. They unfortunately ended up on the wrong side in a 3-1 loss to the Cosumnes River Hawks. Each set was decided by only two points and three of four required extra serves to decide a winner. Marin took the first set of the match before suffering a trio of heartbreaking set losses to end the match.

The Mariners squeaked by in set number one 26-24. They hit just .069 for the set, but took advantage of a few mistakes by the Hawks for the win. The second set was an epic with a final score at 31. Marin led 26-25 but a few attacking errors put Cosumnes in the drivers set. The Mariners retied the score at 29-29 but a kill and a hitting error gave the Hawks the set victory.

The Mariner trailed in the third set 20-19 before three straight aces put Marin to set point. The Mariners reeled off four straight points of their own to tie the match at 23-23 but a service error and kill gave the victory to Cosumnes River.

The final set played out in a similar fashion to the third. Marin trial 23-19 late, they rallied to tie the match at 24-24 before a few hitting errors handed the result to the Hawks 26-24.

Despite the loss it was a tremendous match throughout with both teams deserving of a victory.

Beatrice Heimbrodt led the way for Marin with 13 kills, two aces and two blocks for 17 total points. She added 13 digs as well and hit .154 on the afternoon. Remy Pelzman had nine kills and seven digs for the Mariners while Jade Williams had two aces and a team high 17 digs.

College of Marin continues their non-conference slate with a road match at Santa Rosa Junior College on Friday, September 13th at 6pm.
