Volleyball Falls In Five Set Thriller To Las Positas

Mariners' Volleyball battled deep into the night, but could not grab win over the visiting Las Positas Hawks. The hosts ended a busy two match day with a five-set marathon. Marin fell in the first set before responding with consecutive victories to put their visitors on the brink. The Hawks responded in kind with a clutch fourth set win before a convincing fifth set to take the match.

The Las Positas Hawks took the first set 25-19 as the Mariners struggled on the attack. They hit just .067 with 11 kills against 9 errors. College of Marin battled back to take the second set 25-20 on the strength of 12 kills and just six errors. The Mariners took the third set by the same margin with 13 kills and six errors.

Fatigue began to show in the fourth set as the Mariners struggled to hit with the authority they possessed earlier on in the match. They hit negative with just eight kills against nine errors and dropped the set 25-18 to even the match up.

The decisive fifth set did not take long to decide as the Hawks attacked and the Mariners played on their heels. It was quick work by Las Positas taking the last set 15-8 to clinch the match.

It was a big day for the Mariners' stat lines in the loss. Beatrice Heimbrodt led the way for Mairn with 17 points. She had 16 kills and a pair of block assists as well as 14 digs. Remy Pelzman had eight kills, 26 digs and an ace while Sasha Urban recorded 14 kills and five digs. Makenzie Dugan had 37 assists on the day and added 17 digs as well.

The Mariners have a final non-conference match on Wednesday, September 25th against Mission College. They begin BVC play for good on Friday, September 27th at Los Medanos College.
