Mariners’ Volleyball Sweeps Through the College of Alameda Cougars

College of Marin Volleyball enjoyed a successful road trip across the bay on Friday evening. The Mariners visited the College of Alameda Cougars and swept away their hosts 25-11, 25-23 and 27-25. Marin had just six players for the match but managed to handle the Cougars. Every Mariner recorded points, assists and at least five digs in the match.

Marin played an almost perfect first set with 11 kills against just one error in 33 total attacks. Their reward was a tidy 25-11 win to open the match. The level of difficult of the match increased as fatigue took its toll on the undermanned Mariners and Alameda adjusted their game plan.

Marin gutted out a second set win with a .104 kill percentage in the 25-23 triumph. The Mariners had 13 kills against 8 errors on 48 total attacks. They were fortunate to grab a win as Alameda was better on the attack with a .129 kill percentage.

The third and final set was a knock down, drag it out affair as both teams struggled with attacking efficiency. The Mariners finished barely positive at .050 while Alameda hit negative at -.054. Marin escaped with a 27-25 win in the set to clinch the match.

Freshman middle Lara Perry led the Mariners with 17 points. She racked up 12 kills against just two errors and added three aces and 1.5 blocks to her tally. Remy Pelzman returned from a one match absence to lead the team with 18 digs. Magnolia Johnson played outside of her normal libero role but managed to put up an impressive stat line. She had five kills, two assists, nine digs and a block assist on the evening.

The win improved the Mariners' record to 3-3 in the BVC and 7-11 overall. Next up for Marin is a home match against the ever-dangerous Yuba College 49ers on Wednesday, October 16th at 6pm.
