Mariners’ Volleyball Rallies Past Napa For 3-1 Road Win

College of Marin Volleyball started slow but finished strong as Marin won the final three sets to defeat the Napa Valley Storm 3-1 on Friday. The Mariners visited Napa and were rudely greeted to a 25-20 first set loss. The Mariners were not deterred as battled back to finish off their hosts in style. A trio of Mariners' attackers shined as Beatrice Heimbrodt, Remy Pelzman and Sasha Urban each had double digit kills.

Napa was the better side in the first set. Marin committed seven hitting errors which doomed them on the scoreboard in the 25-20 loss. They shook off a rough hitting second set to eke out a 25-20 win to even the match and steal the momentum back from the Storm.

The Mariners really flipped the switch at the start of the third set. They unless a torrid fury of perfectly placed attacks and dominated the Storm over the final two sets of the match. Marin hit .407 in the third set with 13 kills against just two errors in 27 attacks. They breezed past Napa 26-15. They almost matched their efficiency in the fourth set with 12 kills and just two errors in a 25-14 victory.

Sasha Urban led the way for Marin with 16.5 points. She had 12 kills and just four errors with four aces and eight digs. Beatrice Heimbrodt had 12 kills, an ace and a block to go with 7 digs for 14 total points while Remy Pelzman had 10 kills, two aces and 16 digs. Setter Makenzie Dugan filled up the stat sheet with three kills, three aces, two total blocks, five digs and 36 assists.

The Mariners moved into sole possession of fourth place with the victory.
