College of Marin Volleyball Closes Out 2019 With Sweep Over Yuba

Mariners' Volleyball had their season come to an end on Friday. It ended on a high note as the Mariners swept the Yuba College 49ers on the road in Marysville. The six-member squad showed no signs of late season fatigue as the battled their way through each and every set to clinch a victory and a third-place finish in the Bay Valley Conference. Beatrice Heimbrodt, Remy Pelzman and Sasha Urban each had double digit kills in the match.

The Mariners came out on fire against Yuba with an impressive .355 hitting percentage in the first set. They had 13 kills against just two errors, but Yuba matched them nearly serve for serve as the Mariners won the set, but by only four points 25-21.

The second set was a knockdown, drag it out fight that required extra points. The Mariners won eventually 30-28 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. Once they dispatched the 49ers in the second set, the match was all but won for the Mariners.

Marin hit .256 in the third and final set with 13 kills and just three errors. Yuba battled, but the Mariners were better and took the set 25-20.

The Mariners hit .250 overall in the match, led by Remy Pelzman's sparkling .346 kill percentage on the day. She had 12 kills against just three errors and added an ace and 13 digs on the day. Heimbrodt was not far behind with 11 kills of her own, as she had two aces, two blocks and seven digs.

Sasha Urban wrapped up her Mariners' career on a high note as she tallied 10 kills, two aces and 13 digs. Fellow Sophomore Magnolia Johnson started the game at setter in place of Makenzie Dugan and posted 37 assists and 10 digs.

The victory was the Mariners ninth in BVC Competition as they ended the season with a 9-5 Conference record and a 13-13 overall record.
