Volleyball’s Sasha Urban is September Co-Mariner of the Month

Sophomore Sasha Urban was named Co-Mariner of the Month for September. The outside hitter for the Volleyball team was a force throughout her team’s matches in late August and September. The San Marin grad took on a leadership role in her second season and was essential in the Mariners’ tough opening slate of matches.   

In 13 September matches Urban recorded a total of 70 kills, as well as 13 aces and 87 digs.

One of her best matches of the season took place on September 9th at San Jose City College. Urban just missed out on a double double as she notched 10 kills and nine digs while hitting .167 overall. She added two aces and block assists for a 13-point evening.

The outside hitter had a career high 14 points in the Mariners epic 3-2 loss to Las Positas at home on September 20th. Urban was all attack on the day with 14 kills from 50 total attacks. She added five digs as well in the match.

Her most well-rounded match took place on September 27th as the Mariners dropped a BVC match against the Los Medanos Mustangs. Urban had a season high 15 digs as well as seven kills, an assist, two aces and two block assists. She tallied 10 points by match’s end.

Sasha Urban is the quintessential team player according to Head Coach Lisa Gera, “she is such a great teammate and genuinely puts the team before her personal interests.”

Urban looks to carry her team into Bay Valley Conference contention as the season continues through November.
