Mariners Clinch Playoff Berth

Friday night was an historic night for College of Marin as they closed out the season on the road with a three set victory against Los Medanos 25-23, 25-22, and 25-17. This win solidifies a spot in the CCCAA playoffs for the first time in school history.

"When we started the season in August, we set a goal of making history, and we did that tonight," Coach Lisa Vasquez said. "I could not be more proud of the players, coaches, and administration who made this a reality. The journey is not over, but today is a great day to be a part of the Mariner family.”

Rachel Reher has been an integral part of the team’s success. In the last five matches of the season, Rachel has been in double figures both offensively and defensively averaging 12 kills and 13 digs. “Honestly, I think it is the coolest thing ever,” Reher said when talking about this historic achievement. “Now we have to wear it with pride and it’s really remarkable to say I am a part of the first team that has made it to the state playoffs.”

Outside hitter and team captain Aliyah Afoa, who has been a dominating offensive presence from anywhere on the court, averaging 10 kills and 10 digs throughout the entire season.  “This is just the beginning,” says Afoa. “I feel like this isn’t because of me or a specific person but it’s definitely because of us as an entire team. It’s about what we stand for and how we stand for each other. It’s about the little things. The little things make the big things happen.”

Seeding for the CCCAA State Playoffs are held on Thursday, as the Mariners prepare to make their playoffs debut on Saturday night. Regardless of what happens moving forward, this season will go down in history for the College of Marin volleyball program and it is safe to say that a legacy has been created for future seasons to come.
