Kevin Seeley Named Head Coach for Women's Volleyball

Kevin Seeley, a former standout Outside Hitter in College, has a long and impressive career as a volleyball coach. He started as a High School Varsity Volleyball Coach in Virginia, where he won numerous championships, received three Coach of the Year awards, and led his team to a Regular Season 1st place finish in the World Scholastic Games for 2001. In 2002, he was chosen to coach in the National High School All-Star Game in Hawaii and was also invited to coach in the World Scholastic games in 2003 but had to decline due to coaching obligations at UC Berkeley. Recently, in 2021, he was inducted into Bluestone High School's Sports Hall of Fame as a Volleyball Coach.

In 2002, Kevin became the head coach for Cal's (UC-Berkeley) Men's Volleyball team, leading them from 4th place to a 1st place conference title in his first year there. He achieved 2nd and 3rd place finishes in his other two years at Cal. Later, in 2013-2014, he served as the Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator for Northern CA's Professional Men's Team, "Nor Cal Premier," where he led the team to victories against teams with Olympic team members.

In addition to his success as a competitive coach, Kevin started the "Volleystart" program in 2008, which has become one of the most popular youth volleyball programs in Northern California for over 10 years, selling out more than 10 seasons in a row. He has coached several 10s and 11s club teams built from this program that consistently finished in the top 2 for all of Northern CA and produced dozens of All-MCAL star players.

Kevin holds a Master's Degree in Education and has contributed to academic research in the field, with work published in a major College textbook and in the Journal of Special Education. Overall, Kevin Seeley is an accomplished coach and educator with a passion for developing young athletes into top-level players.

Coach Seeley’s philosophy is to 1. Raise the praise to a player: Highlight what they did right so they are motivated to continue using that correct technique. 2. Learning from positive failures can be our best lessons. The openness to fail forward will open the door to challenge themselves more without feeling they are risking everything. So, this creates a lot of opportunities for positive failures, which leads to a growth mindset. and finally: the ball is always, always, coming to you on the next touch.

He is also looking to focus on structuring both their priorities in life and playing volleyball which leads to how they structure their days around those priorities every day to get the most bang for their buck every 24 hours. Time in a day is the only thing we all have the same amount of.
