Mariners Force 5th Set Against Mendocino

Mariners Force 5th Set Against Mendocino

10/26/2022 - In their mid-week match, the College of Marin’s women’s volleyball team was up against Mendocino College. It was a much-anticipated as the two sides looked well-prepared for the game.

As per the expectations and anticipation, it was a close game which made it a treat to watch. The match started with a closely contested first game, eventually dominated by Mendocino’s side. Both sides looked competitive right from the word go. Mendocino won the first and second sets.

The Mariners made a great comeback in the third and fourth to force a 5th set. The third game was the closest of them all, as the pendulum swung one way or the other. Eventually, Marin won the game with a narrow margin of 26-24. This showed how Marin had managed to turn the tide and win their first game of the match. The momentum shift was carried into the next match as Marin won that comfortably with a score of 25-20.

Mendocino won the final and decisive game as they won the match with an overall score of 3-2. Though the side lost the match, it was a great comeback considering that they were down by 2-0 at the start. Similarly, the grit shown by our ladies in the third and fourth games was exemplary and will serve as an inspiration for the future.

Despite being down and out in the beginning, it was a great comeback as the side took the match to the final game. The coaching staff seemed pretty pleased with that and commented:

“Our team went into this game knowing we were in a tough spot with our setter out, and they rose to the challenge taking Mendocino to 5”.

Kaleena rose to the occasion and contributed well to set all 6 rotations while also leading the team stats in overall kills with 9 successfully executed kills. Other than that, she also contributed well to the defense, as she managed 14 digs. This effort was second to Maylin’s digs, who secured 16.

Up Next: The Mariners will host Yuba College on Wed, Nov. 2nd in a 6 pm match at the Don Barksdale Court.
