Historic Win for Women's Water Polo

Historic Win for Women's Water Polo
The College of Marin women's water polo team made history on Friday, defeating Merced 15-10 in their Coast Conference opener. This is the first time the Mariners have ever beaten the Blue Devils, and it comes after a tough loss to Merced in the NorCal Regional tournament last year.

COM jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Alana McCartney led the way with 7 goals and 7 steals, but there was balanced scoring throughout the Mariners' lineup. Reagan Tureson and Becca Janssen each scored 3 goals, and Madison Roberts and Lily Weires each added a goal. Marie Fehring was solid in goal, making 14 saves.

The Mariners were particularly dominant in the third quarter, outscoring Merced 4-1 to extend their lead to 11-7. They held on for the victory in the fourth quarter, securing a historic win for the program.

This win is a big boost for the Mariners, who are now 8-6 on the season. Next up, the Mariners have a pair of tough road conference games against City College of San Francisco and College of San Mateo.
