Marin Women's Water Polo Tears Through Big 8/Coast Crossover Tournament
The College of Marin Women's Water Polo team put on a dazzling display of offense and defense this weekend, going 3-0 against Big 8 conference teams at the Big 8/Coast crossover tournament. The Mariners defeated Fresno City College 18-10, Delta College 9-8 in overtime, and Diablo Valley College 18-5.
 
Alana McCartney led the Mariners with a torrid shooting performance, scoring 14 goals in the three games. Lilly Weires and Reagan Tureson also chipped in with 10 and seven goals, respectively.
 
In the opening game against Fresno City, Weires exploded for seven goals and four assists, while Becca Janssen added four assists and two steals. Marie Fehring and Lexie Gallardo combined for eight saves in goal.
 
In the game against Delta, McCartney scored four times and had two assists and seven steals. The Mariners made history by defeating perennial powerhouse Delta for the first time ever. Fehring had eight saves in goal for the Mariners. Weires had two goals along with four assists, Tureson had two goals and three assists, and Madison Roberts added a goal.
 
In the final game of the weekend, Marin routed DVC 18-5. The Mariners received goals from several players, including Anna Johnson with two goals and Allie Pierroti with two goals. Gallardo had five saves in goal for the Mariners.
 
The Mariners will play their last two Coast Conference games next week against Las Positas on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Cabrillo on Friday at 12:30 p.m. All home games are free, so come out and support the Mariners as they finish their regular season in style!
