Mariners Women's Water Polo Season Wraps Up at NorCal Regionals

Marking a historic chapter in the program's history, the Mariners have concluded their most successful season to date. The Women's Water Polo team finished with an impressive 15-11 overall record, securing a 5-4 standing in the Coast-North Conference and ultimately claiming the 4th position in the conference rankings. This achievement earned them a coveted spot in the Northern California Regionals Tournament, held at the Miwok Aquatic Center in Novato on November 10th. Despite a valiant effort, they faced a formidable opponent in Cabrillo College, succumbing to a 10-13 defeat in a hard-fought battle.

Among the standout performers of the season was sophomore Alana McCartney, who concluded her tenure with the Mariners as the #1 ranked player in the 3C2A for goals (133), steals (131), and shots (255). Alana's exceptional contributions were duly recognized with her selection to the First Team All-Coast Conference.

Sophomore Lilly Weires also left her mark in the Coast-North Conference rankings, securing the 3rd position in assists (45), 2nd in shots (141), 6th in goals (63), and 4th in steals (57).

Freshman Goalie Marie Fehring had a remarkable debut season in the Coast-North Conference, clinching the 1st position in saves (200), 2nd with an impressive 50.1% save percentage, and 2nd in wins (12).

Contributing significantly to the team's performance, Rebecca Janssen secured the 2nd position in steals (64) and the 5th position in assists (42).

As six sophomores—Lexie Gallardo, Alana McCartney, Lillian Weires, Jill Berryman, Kailah Sarganis, and Rebecca Janssen—move on to new endeavors, the team expresses gratitude for their dedication and wishes them success in their future pursuits. The anticipation is high for the returners and incoming freshmen who are poised to step up and make their mark in the upcoming 2024 season.
